Visa processing progress – Immigration NZ Update
Improving visa processing times is a top priority as we know how important this is to all our customers. With good people, technology, and processes, we have delivered some results that show we are heading in the right direction.
Across all visa categories, the median processing time has improved by 5 working days from 14 working days in 2022/23 to 9 working days in 2023/24. There is still work to do to make sure we are meeting customers’ expectations around processing times. We continue to work hard to process applications as quickly as possible.
The quality of our decision making has also improved. Our post-decision quality assurance process tells us that the quality of decisions for resident visa decisions has increased from 89.2% in the 2022/23 financial year to 91.6% in 2023/24, while the quality of temporary visa decisions has increased from 85.6% to 91.2%.
The effective management of risk in our temporary applications has increased from 88% to 96%. Our recent Customer Satisfaction Survey tells us all our efforts are paying off. In the 2023/24 annual results, 78% of all applicants who applied directly to INZ were satisfied with their overall experience of applying for a visa. This was an increase from 74% in the previous year.
