Renew your licence

Every year, your licence must be renewed.

Your licence expiry date appears on your licence, wallet card and register listing.

You must submit your renewal application prior to the expiry of your current licence to avoid your licence expiring.

We aim to process fully complete inspection renewal applications within 25 working days. Fully complete fast-track renewal applications may be approved instantaneously; if not, we aim to process them within five working days. If your application is taking longer, we are working hard to process it as soon as possible. If there are any concerns we will be in contact in writing to seek your response.”

Should your licence expire

  • you must stop giving immigration advice
  • Immigration New Zealand will no longer accept your immigration applications
  • you will need to apply for a licence through the reapply application process.

  • renewal applications are available online two months before your licence is due to expire.

Make a fast-track renewal application

When you apply, you'll need to provide:

  • a passport quality photograph  (at least every three years)

You’ll need a Visa or Mastercard to pay your application fee and levy.

Make an inspection renewal application

When you apply, you'll need to provide:

  • a copy of your signed supervision agreement [DOC, 112 KB] (provisional licence holders only)
  • bank statements for your client account for the last three months and the related client account ledger, if you take money in advance
  • the client file requested by the Authority
  • your continuing professional development records (unless you have already uploaded these to IAA online portal)
  • a passport quality photograph (at least every three years).

Notes for provisional licence holders

To complete a fast-track renewal you must have an approved supervision agreement in place.

At any time, a provisional licence holder must:

  • inform the Registrar of Immigration Advisers when any notice is given that the supervision agreement is to be terminated
  • not give immigration advice for any period of time in which they do not have in place a supervision agreement approved by the Registrar of Immigration Advisers
  • provide any new supervision agreement to the Registrar of Immigration Advisers for approval.

Application costs

All costs are in New Zealand dollars (NZD).

Licence fees contribute to the cost of processing and assessing all applications. Levies contribute to the cost of funding the other functions of the Authority and the full Tribunal costs.
